Why have plants at home?
Indoor plants are not just decorative. They contribute to a more balanced atmosphere, help regulate air humidity and create a proven sense of well-being. In an increasingly urban world, they are one of the simplest ways to maintain contact with nature in daily life.
How to choose the right plant for each room
The choice starts with available light. Rooms with south or west-facing windows allow a greater variety of species; darker spaces like hallways or interior bedrooms call for shade-tolerant plants like ferns, aspidistras or zamioculcas. Also consider how often you can water — if your routine is irregular, opt for species that are more forgiving.
Our recommended species
At Planta Livre we produce and select species with proven performance in Portuguese indoor environments: Monstera deliciosa, Ficus lyrata, Strelitzia reginae, Pothos, Dracaena, Spathiphyllum and Zamioculcas. These are robust, accessible plants with great visual impact.
Essential care
Most indoor plants don't need daily attention. The most common mistake is overwatering! Roots suffocate when there's too much water. Tip: always check the soil moisture before watering, ensure good drainage in the pot, and wipe the leaves periodically to maximise light absorption. In winter, reduce watering and keep plants away from cold draughts.
